25/1/09 Venue: Kilkenny,
What a performance from the Meath Dart team, to define
under dog odds to be Leinster Champions for the first time.
Sunday morning, Our second group match was a strong
Dublin team where we managed only 4 legs of them out of
12, Our third match against Wexford we took 10 games of
the 12 to finish second in our group.
An open draw off 8 teams was done in the afternoon,
unfairly we drew Dublin, But turned the tables around on
them, and made up for our defeat in the groups and also the
final of this 2 years ago. We stayed level the whole way and
our 13th man Sid Reid (Ashbourne) handled the pressure to
advance us to the semi’s. Carlow were our opposition and
they didn’t start well, We took them 7-2 and to make our
second Leinster final in two years.
The final held late that night, we were to meet the holding
All-Ireland Champions Kilkenny. After a long day we had
just one more to play. Our first man up Paul O’Rourke
(Navan) won an excellent game to be 1-0 up. The strong
Kilkenny went 5-2 ahead. The remaining 6 Throwers never
put the heads down and Simon Wykes (Dunleer) played his
heart out to equal us with 3 games to go, Twelfth man
Damian Conor (Navan) with all the pressure on, kept the
head and won A very hard and major game to make Meath
the Champions.
We now play the All-Irelands this coming Saturday in Castle
bar, Mayo, Upon us is our new Meath Ladies Team which
we wish the best of Luck.
